I have the 13' MBPR (Early 2015, 2.9 GHz i5) of my 78 year old father here, which is kind of dead after he – if he recalls correctly – performed an update from Big Sur 11.x to Big Sur 11.y (he grabs every update he gets offered, so unfortunately he doesn't pay much attention to the details). Let’s call this MacBook A. If you have a machine with one of these GPUs installed, I'd advise upgrading it if possible (can be done in 2010/2011 iMacs, iMac11,x-12,x), disabling the dedicated GPU if using a 2011 15' or 17' MacBook Pro (MacBookPro8,2/8,3, instructions to do so can be found here), or not installing Catalina. Running Catalina without full graphics. MacOS Mojave or Catalina: MacBook Air from mid-2012 or newer, OS X Mavericks (10.9) or later. MacOS Sierra or High Sierra: MacBook Air from late 2010 (or later), OS X Lion or later (Mountain Lion in the case of High Sierra). OS X El Capitan: MacBook Air from late 2008 (or later), OS X Snow Leopard or later.

- So, I would appreciate it if someone can let me know how I can get the FULL Catalina Installer from the App Store, NOT just the update. This used to be so simple, and in actuality, I was able to download the full OS 10.15.1 installer from the App Store sometime last month.
